Doorkins Magnificat

What’s a cathedral to do when its beloved tabby climbs the Tree of Life for the last time? Give it a fine sendoff, of course. London’s Southwark Cathedral did just that for their feline friend who mewed among its pews for the last dozen years. Thousands who had come to know the stray, dubbed

Doorkins Magnificat, watched the livestreamed memorial service. Though a few naysayers titched-titched the idea of holding a service of thanksgiving for a cat, and blimey! burying the creature in consecrated ground, Bishop of the Cathedral Andrew Nunn said, “I’m not particularly a cat person, or at least I wasn’t before I met her, but this little cat, who arrived at our door, who chose us and stayed changed our lives and enhanced our mission and ministry.” Purr on, little one.
